This air fryer copycat Taco Bell Mexican pizza will give you a meal in minutes without all the added garbage you get in regular fast food.
Fast food, for better or worse, has become a major part of our American culture. But we all know its not great for our health if we eat it on a regular basis.
So instead of giving up the things we love, sometimes, it really pays off to simply make our favorites at home. Especially when it’s cheap and easy to do so.
The good news is, this is quick and easy to assemble and cook once you have all the components together. It’s a great way to use up taco night leftovers too!
Mexican Pizza in The Air Fryer
An air fryer is one of the best ways to make healthier food. While most people use it to fry foods without all the fat, you can make a lot of your favorites in a much more pant-size-friendly way.
Is It Cheaper To Make A Taco Bell Mexican Pizza At Home?
Absolutely! A Taco Bell Mexican Pizza costs about $3.50. You could make several of these for that amount per serving. About 4 of them.
So this is definitely cost effective and way cheaper than going through the drive-thru.
Meatless Mexican Pizza
If you are vegetarian, this can easily be made, either without the meat, or with a vegetarian meat substitute.
For a vegan version, use vegan meat substitute and vegan cheese. We like the shredded cheddar by Diaya. Their flavors have come a long way over the years.
Mexican Pizza Toppings
The recipe below mimics the Taco Bell version. However, you can absolutely add other toppings.
- Raw onions
- Sliced black olives
- Corn kernels
- Shredded fajita chicken
- Salsa
- Fresh, chopped cilantro
The Best Air Fryers For Mexican Pizzas
The only type of air fryer we recommend avoiding with a recipe like this, is a paddle air fryer. That is, unless you can use it without the paddle. Otherwise, a basket or toaster oven style air fryer are your best bets.
We have the Instant Vortex Pro that does a great job every single time. You can read our review on the Instant Vortex Pro here.
What You’ll Need
1 lb. taco meat – And easy recipe for this is 1 lb. of ground beef, 1 tbsp. ground cumin, 1 tbsp. ground chili powder, 1 tbsp. onion granules and 1 tbsp. garlic granules. Cook this up in some oil in a skillet, and done!
5 oz. refried beans – We like Trader Joe’s refried beans the best, but use what you have on hand.
8 standard tostadas – These come ready-made from the store. Find them in with the tortillas.
1½ cups shredded cheese – We like to use a Mexican blend, but you can use any cheese you prefer.
¼ cup salsa – We look for salsa without any added sugar. The level of heat is up to you.
¼ cup Taco Bell hot sauce – This can be found in the ethnic aisle at most grocery stores in with the other Mexican foods.
2 medium Roma tomatoes – These should be chopped small for the best texture.
