Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Parchment paper

Ingredients

The Veggies

  • 4 oz. sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup chopped red onions
  • 1 tbsp. oil

The Puff Pastry

  • 1 container puff pastry dough (thawed in the fridge for 2-3 hours if frozen)
  • ½ cup flour

The Rolls

  • 1 ½ cups pizza sauce (or as needed for coverage)
  • 6 medium garlic cloves
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 3 oz. can sliced black olives

Instructions

The Veggies

  • In a large skillet, sauté the mushrooms and onions in the oil until the onions are translucent and the mushrooms are fully wilted. Add in the minced garlic in the last minute of cooking, stirring constantly to keep it from burning. Set aside to cool.

The Puff Pastry

  • Flour your work surface with the flour, and unroll the puff pastry onto it. Work it over a bit to flatten it out to prepare the surface for the toppings. You can do all of this on a large piece of parchment paper if you have any issues with the stickiness. This will help you roll everything up at the end, but it's not necessary if you are used to working with pastry dough and know how to handle it. You may or may not use all of the flour. But it's important to have enough of it on hand to keep the dough from sticking to your surface.
Step one is to flatten out your puff pastry on a floured surface.

The Rolls

  • Spread the sauce over the entire surface, except for the top inch or so. You want to leave a lip that will stick well to hold the pastry together after you roll it.
When making these Air Fryer Pizza Rolls, make sure to leave a one inch lip of dough left without sauce on it for proper closure after rolling.
  • Spread the sautéd vegetables over the sauce.

  • Add any meat you want to use and finally the shredded cheese, leaving that lip at the top of the dough uncovered and clean.

  • Roll up the dough as tightly as you can. Here we used parchment paper to help roll it, but if your surface is well floured, you won't need that. Roll it as tightly as you can, and press the end lip into the dough by rolling the roll over onto it and letting it rest there.

  • Line your air fryer tray or basket with parchment paper, and poke little holes in the bottom for air flow. Make sure they are small holes so your sauce doesn't drip through. That would defeat the purpose of the parchment paper.

  • Slice your roll into either 12 one-inch pieces, or 6 two-inch pieces. These are a bit easier to handle if you cut them thicker, but will serve more people if you cut them thinner. The choice is yours.Slice your roll into either 12 one-inch pieces, or 6 two-inch pieces. These are a bit easier to handle if you cut them thicker, but will serve more people if you cut them thinner. The choice is yours. Lay them either on the lip side, or on a cut side. Either way, they will cook pretty well. The above rolls are more oval than round because we placed them on the dough side. If you want them more round, place them on the cut side.

  • Bake in the air fryer at 325 F. for 10 minutes. (Note that every air fryer is different. Start checking your first batch at the 6 minute mark, and every minute thereafter. Your air fryer may not need to cook these for as long. Or, it may need to cook longer!) Flip them over and cook for an additional 10 minutes for a total of 20 minutes cooking time. Remove from the air fryer and cool a bit before serving.
