Can You Cook Salmon In An Air Fryer?

Definitely! In fact, it’s an amazing way to cook salmon! Read on to find out how.

Why Air Frying Salmon Works

Air frying salmon works because salmon is a firm fish that won’t fall apart in the air fryer. It’s quick, easy, and healthy! With just a tiny bit of oil, you can have delicious moist salmon with crispy skin on the table for dinner in minutes.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

You will love this recipe for air fryer honey glazed salmon because it is quick, healthy, and delicious. The whole family will enjoy this flavourful, easy meal.

Should I Keep The Salmon Skin On Or Off?

Keep the skin on your salmon, so that you can keep all of those delicious, and healthy juices inside of the meat. When you begin cooking your salmon in the air fryer, place it skin side down so that it will get nice and crispy, and be easier to remove from the air fryer.

Can You Use Garlic Powder Instead Of Fresh Garlic?

Yes, if you find yourself without a clove of fresh garlic you can use garlic powder as a substitute. One minced clove of garlic is approximately ⅛ of a teaspoon of garlic powder, add more or less to suit your tastes.

What Type Of Air Fryer To Use

There is no specific air fryer that is best for cooking salmon. Use the air fryer that you have available to you, and whichever settings the manufacturer recommends for air frying salmon or other fish.

Tips For Perfectly Cooked Air Fryer Salmon

  1. Before adding anything, pat your salmon dry (if it is thawed) before cooking. This will give you a crisp crust and delicate interior and it will also ensure that your spices or marinade stays on the fish.
  2. Choose filets that are similar in size so that they will cook evenly, and don’t overcrowd your basket.
  3. Make sure that your salmon fillets are not touching in the basket.
  4. Your salmon is done when it flakes with a fork, or a meat thermometer shows an internal temperature of 145 degrees.

How Long To Cook Salmon In An Air Fryer

The length of time that you will need to cook salmon in the air fryer will depend on the thickness of your filets and your specific brand of air fryer, as well as the temperature you cook at. Generally, your salmon will take around 8-15 minutes from start to finish.

Does Salmon Need To Be Thawed Before Air Frying?

No, your salmon does not have to be thawed before you air fry it. If you forget to thaw your salmon, or you didn’t know that’s what you wanted for dinner you can still make this delicious meal. The salmon will have a better texture if you thaw it before cooking, however, if you forget you can use this trick.

Put the salmon in the preheated air fryer at 390 degrees for 7 minutes to defrost it. Then brush your honey glaze on the salmon and cook it for an additional 7 to 9 minutes until it reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees.

How Do You Know When Salmon Is Done In An Air Fryer?

You will know that your salmon is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees. If you don’t have a meat thermometer (you should, safety first! Check out our recommendations for the perfect thermometers for air frying.) you can tell that the salmon is done when it becomes light pink in color. Raw salmon is a deep red color and turns an opaque, or translucent pink when it is fully cooked.

How Do You Keep Salmon From Sticking To The Air Fryer?

To prevent the salmon from sticking in your air fryer you can spray the inside of it with oil spray (here is our recommendation on the best air fryer oil spray to use), wipe it down with a light coating of your favorite cooking oil, or place a piece of parchment paper on the grates before placing the salmon skin-side down inside.

Can You Cook Salmon From Frozen In An Air Fryer?

Yes, you can cook salmon from frozen in the air fryer. Put the salmon in the preheated air fryer at 390 F. degrees for about 7 minutes so that it can thaw out from the freezer. Once the salmon is thawed you can add your seasonings and continue cooking it until it reaches an internal temperature of 145 F. degrees.

Do You Need To Flip Salmon In An Air Fryer?

No, you will not need to flip your salmon when you cook it in the air fryer. Simply place the salmon skin side down in your air fryer and leave it to cook. Because of the air circulation inside of the air fryer your salmon will be evenly cooked on both sides without having to flip it halfway through.

Have Leftovers? No Problem! Here’s How To Use Them Up!

Did you get lucky enough to have some air fryer honey glazed salmon leftover? Here’s how you can reheat or use it cold! Serve the leftover, cold salmon on top or alongside a salad, or pair it with any leftover veggies that you might have had from dinner the night before.

Is It Safe To Reheat Cooked Salmon?

As long as it’s been properly stored in the refrigerator, it’s fine to reheat cooked salmon. But you wan to do so slowly so that it doesn’t get too dry.

To reheat it, place it on a parchment-lined air fryer basket or tray, brush it very lightly with olive oil to keep it from drying out, and reheat at 370 F. degrees for 1-4 minutes, depending on thickness. Make sure to preheat your air fryer prior to putting the salmon in, if your air fryer has that function.

You can also reheat in an oven at 275 F. for about 10-15 minutes. But watch it carefully so it doesn’t get dry from over cooking. Here again, you’ll want to lightly brush it with oil first.

How Far In Advance Can I Marinate Salmon?

Here is the general rule of thumb:

  • Acid-based marinades = Up to 30 minutes
  • Non-Acidic marinades = Up to 24 hours.

This particular recipe is mildly acidic, so 30 minutes is the limit here.
